About Alfalfa House Members' Council

Submitted by admin on 2 November, 2015 - 12:47

Members are encouraged to have direct input into co-op policy such as what products are stocked and what services are offered. One way to get involved is through a board of directors, known as the Members' Council (MC). The MC is elected at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) each Spring, however members can be nominated at other times if there are fewer than 7 directors.

The AGM and any Special General Meeting — held at the request of members proposing changes to the co-op that require wide membership approval — is open to any member to attend and vote.

The MC, which comprises between four and seven members, oversees the co-op's financial management and general policy-making.

Members are welcome to attend the monthly MC meetings and raise proposals and speak to them, although only MC members can vote.

The MC meets the fourth Tuesday of the month from 7.00 pm.

Meeting dates and venues may change, so always check the home page for news.

A typical MC meeting agenda would include

• Attendance, Apologies

• Agenda additions and approval

• Confirmation of and business arising from the previous minutes

• Current Matters

• Membership: approving new members, cancellations

• Staffing

• Workplace Health and Safety

• Reports: Finance, Manager, Stock Co - Ordinator, Staff Meeting
